'Genesis' falls short on the knowledge of Universe!
Genesis, as in the Book of Genesis, one of the 66 books of Bible, which is also referred to as the religious book of Christians, is an account of mysteries of human life & human needs.
But many folks erroneously use Genesis to support many other theories & desperately look for facts to support their theories.
So, no wonder, you'd see cherry picking of data from some random data to support their insights & theories. My friend & one of the leading Analytics expert & Chief data scientist for a global company explains this "Fraud" Analytics ( https://openmindsconsult.com/fraud-analytics-cherry-picking-data-to-create-explanatory-theories-when-none-exist/ )
In fact, we can hear this from our kids who can quickly spot & say about our deviating behaviours from our principles in mind. By the way, if we don't listen & correct ourself, we'll receive "Hypocrite" award from our kids.
Genesis describes our RELATIONSHIP to the universe & its creator.
In its stories we see reflection after reflection of our own human need.
Adam & Eve needed a covering for their self-centered nature.
Noah needed a boat to save him & people of his times from waters of judgement.
Abraham continually needed God to intervene, to deliver him and supply him with things he lacked.
Isaac needed God to prompt him to action.
Jacob needed a saviour to get him out of the messes he continually made in his life.
Joseph needed a deliverer from the pit, from prison, from life's unfairness.
Therefore, calling the book of Genesis as source of knowledge of universe is where many have gone wrong about the book of Genesis.
The purpose of scripture is stated more clearly in scripture itself, "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for,
(1) teaching,
(2) rebuking,
(3) correcting, and
(4) training
in RIGHTEOUSNESS, so that the man of God (that is, you, me, & all human beings) may be THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED FOR every good work." 2 Tim 3.
And, oh! 'Righteousness' means becoming,
(a) more tender-hearted,
(b) accepting fellow humans weaknesses, &
(c) forgiving fellow humans (not just your children, it's also other humans touching your lives included) IN SPITE OF their annoying behaviours.
So studying Scripture for its UNintended purpose of understanding universe, earth, shape of earth, age of earth, etc., is not at all prudent.
Please read, if you want to read, & try understanding Genesis with the outline described above. The message of Genesis is the message of God's answer to our human need.
This answer is going to be different for each of us & at different seasons of our life.
