YOGA -- Why? What exactly are the reasons?
This topic burdens my heart. Because there are several controversies, divisions, and conspiracy theories associated with this topic.
Precious time of several lives are spent on those controversies, divisions, & conspiracy theories.
Conspiracy theories ranging from 'how some people are driving from behind this' to 'how devil & demons are driving from behind the shadows'.
Some people say India's leaders are promoting yoga & yoga is being mandated in organizations.
Several people in leadership positions are confused and simply following orders for lack of clarity.
Net result is more hatred, slander, divisions, etc., is what is currently seen in the here and now among us in India. This is the burden.
Therefore, when I came across the following portion in Wikipedia, it is really refreshing. (I am quoting Wikipedia as it is collectively written & edited and therefore a good place to find accepted wisdom)
"The later Vedic Upanishads expand the idea further by suggesting that Yoga is a form of Yajna (devotion, sacrifice). The Shvetashvatara Upanishad in verse 1.5.14, for example, uses the analogy of Yajna materials to explain the means to see one's soul and God, with inner rituals and without external rituals"
Thus, Yoga is after all a means to examine one's own Self and God WITHOUT external rituals according to Shvetashvatara Upanishad verse 1.5.14.
Different religions use different wordings & texts to encourage individuals to do the same:
'Examine your faith',
'Meditate on your thoughts, emotions, & behaviours',
'Pray to God',
'Meditate on God's words as written in scriptures',
'Feel the presence of God', etc.,
But yoga is still not enough for this complex life.

Science says everybody has blind spots.
Scripture says human heart is extremely deceptive.
So in order to more fully understand our self, I developed this habit:
Beginning 2016 I took a hard look at myself. The voice of a leader ringed continually in my ears, "If you want to improve you, ask your loved ones around you: What is wrong with me? after assuring them that you'll not talk back or explain back and will only note down their feedback points & will strive to improve upon those points."
There was an internal battle against the idea! As I thought about it more and more, it was clear to me that I am setting myself on suicidal mission for my ego. So I prayed and God granted me his grace and mercies & pumped up my courage to go for it. Then I acted.
Asked the question to my family members one-to-one and also with all & keep asking periodically once in 2 months: "What is wrong with me?" and keep noting down the points and keep striving on those improvements. This exercise immensely blessed me and blesses me.
For additional reading on Yoga, here is the latest document as published by Government of India on their suggested common yoga protocol: http://ayush.gov.in/genericcontent/common-yoga-protocol-2017
I haven't reviewed if anything in this conflicts with scripture. But looking forward to hearing if anybody has seen or know any parts in this document that conflict with Scripture and or any principles of God.
