How I felt like a real man at 18 years!
When I joined college, #iitmadras, my dad called one day.
"State Bank of India is giving merit-based loan for college education. You are eligible. What do you think? Mom doesn't like at all. She thinks you'll not respect us when you grow-up"
"What is the rate of interest? When does the repayment start? Let me do some calcs and get back. What is the interest in your provident fund?" I asked from compounding interest knowledge - whatever I learnt from school.
After a day, I went back, "Yes, Dad. Go for the college education loan! Save yours & Mom's earnings into provident fund. Long-way for us to take care of sister's education & wedding as well. Also, the rate of your provident fund savings is higher than the loan repayment interest after my job. Overall, we save more!"
"Sounds good! I'll apply," he smiled.
"Mom has to get over cultural principle: Sponsoring adult children will get more love, honor & respect in our old age," I laughed. "It is not true!"
He again smiled.
Thus, growing under good parents & school days hard-working paid my college education. My 18 yrs life got insured for Rs.50K as loan-collateral. Felt like a real man at 18 yrs. #ThankingGod
