Why Feedback on our Attitude Disturbs our Heart?
When someone comments about our attitude, our inner attitude, do we experience a disturbance in our heart?
'How dare you assess my attitude?'
'Bible says Jesus alone knows our heart. How the heck can you tell about my attitude?'
Angry thoughts rage within us.
Do we know why we experience such disturbance?
Because.... By the way, I may have some views. You may have some other views, And, others may have entirely other views. So I searched into scripture for the answer. Look! What I have found!
"For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their CONSCIENCE also bears witness, and their CONFLICTING thoughts ACCUSE or even EXCUSE them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus." Rom 2 14:16
So how do we handle such disturbance?
"...We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,....." 2 Cor 10:5
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death." Rom 8:1-2
Thus, why should our heart get disturbed when someone comments about our attitude?
Why are we letting our angry thoughts make us lose our peace?
'Help, me Lord,' I prayed.
Lord answered & provided grace to listen calmly, repeat what I am hearing to ascertain that the speaker really intended what I heard & understood, & then gently respond with either to accept the charge & seek prayer for forgiveness OR to park the charge & seek prayer for understanding OR to reject the charge & seek our Lord's grace for speaker's mind renewal.
Thus, it is a journey with our Lord & we must seek for his spirit of gentleness when in need and grow-up towards this Apostle's state of heart: "I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself." 1 Cor 4:3
