Freedom from the power of sin

Many folks understand the freedom from our guilts due to our sinful thoughts and or behaviours through the substitutionary sacrifice of the man Jesus, the son of God.

Thus, many folks are clear and also experience the power of the blood of the man Jesus shed on the cross of calvary.

However, sadly, many are not aware of the freedom from the power of sin as well as not aware of the freedom from the presence of sin through the gospel of Christ. I am borrowing this words from Charles Spurgeon.

Me too was one among these for silver jubilee years in my following Jesus as the Lord of my life.

But this following was an hallucination, because, "if Jesus is not Lord of all areas of our life, then he is not Lord of our life at all," says our Pastor often.

Subsequently, in his great mercies when Jesus set me free from the power of my sin, I understood the root cause of why it took so long to receive this freedom.

It was because this advice of our Lord was taken lightly & not seriously:

“27 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’

28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.

30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell." Matt 5

Jesus uses hyperbole, an intentional overstatement, to show the seriousness of sin. Nothing, even important parts such as a hand, foot, or eye, can be more important than allowing Jesus to work out his magic of holiness in our lives.

Of course, Jesus does not mean that people should literally cut off those body parts, for the literal removal of them cannot & will not remove the root of sin in our hearts.
