Mathew 4 - Meditation by Kevin Samuel Premkumar

29 Apr 2019: Good morning, today's Bible passage is taken from Matthew 4:1-11. 😝Am I talking like a pastor? 😄😄 Today I decided to read a small but significant passage. It is about the temptation of Jesus. In the Bible it says that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit and ate nothing for 40 days and 40 nights.

Though this seems a bit ritualistic, Jesus, the son of God was fasting while praying, and so it is fine. Also, our God is not a ritualistic God; neither is his Son.

When I read the phrase '40 days and 40 nights', I made reference to Noah and Moses:
Noah was in the ark with his family and the animals while it rained for 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS; Moses saw God's glory on Mount Sinai and stayed there for 40 DAYS AND 40 NIGHTS.

I don't know whether there is any connection between Noah, Moses and Jesus Christ, but I hope I keep this in mind so that maybe in the future if I ever come across something like this it would be useful information.
Nothing listed in the Bible is a coincidence; it is all part of God's amazing and wondrous plan.

Each time the Devil tried to tempt our Lord, Jesus made reference to the Scripture as to why he should not do what he was told to do. For instance, when the Devil tells Jesus to turn the stones into bread to satisfy his hunger, Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 8:3...

"People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God. "

Jesus beautifully refutes Satan's words by quoting from the Scripture.
This story was illustrated in God's marvellous plan to point out the importance of God's Word in order for us to fight our battles: both worldly ones as well as spiritual battles.
When Satan uses the Scriptures in Matthew 4:5-7, Jesus counters the words that were misused with the word of God that was truly applicable in that particular situation.

The moral out of all of this is that we must meditate on God's word like it were our daily meals. It is as important as all of the essentials that we require on a daily basis. Satan hates the word of God. We could fight the Prince of Demons, the Father of Lies, only if we use the word of God as our sword in the spiritual battle.
