Mathew 7 - Meditation by Kevin Samuel Premkumar

Today I read Matthew 7. This chapter is where the sermon on the mount ends. The main topics Jesus preached here are not to judge others, pray and it will be given, the golden rule, beware of the false prophets, true disciples and building on a solid foundation.

It is wrong to condemn one another because there is no right in everybody and it is very easy and illogical to point out someone's wrong, when we are filled with wrong. Jesus illustrates this by a short story Matthew 7:3-5.

"And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying, 'Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye', when you can't sleep past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye."

The Bible tells us, "Seek and ye shall find." When we pray repeatedly for a blessing from the Lord, the Lord will hear our prayer, and he will answer it in his own time, if what is asked is according to his standards and plan.

The Golden Rule is the principle that should lead our life, that should govern every work of ours. This rule states that we must do for others what we want them to do for us. The Lord Jesus tells us that this is a summation of all the teachings of the prophets.

Jesus tells us to beware false prophets, because they produce bad fruit. Their wrong teachings influence us in bad ways that may lead us away from God.

Jesus also talks about true disciples. For the same reason, all who come to the church are traditionally Christians, but not all Christians are believers. The Bible says that the false disciples will not enter heaven, for the Lord never knew them.

Anyone who listens to God's teaching and obeys it is wise like one who builds his house on the rock. When trials and temptations come, the man stands stable, just like the storm-struck house on the rock. One who hears his teaching in one ear and lets it out the other is like a foolish man who builds his house on the sand. When the storm comes, his house will wash out. In the same way, when trials and temptations come, this man will first stumble and then fall flat.
