Mathew 4:12 - 5:11 - Meditation of Kevin Samuel Premkumar

5 May 2019: Today, I read Matthew 4:12-5:11. The significant topics are the calling of the first disciples and the sermon on the mount.
The funny thing is, Jesus never went to the Religious leaders or teachers of religious law or the Pharisees to select his disciples, rather he selected illiterate fishermen to follow him. This is how God can make anybody his weapon or tool to accomplish his plans or to shape the world. Nowadays, these illiterate fishermen are termed "Saints" in Roman Catholicism.

Jesus first saw Simon Peter and his brother Andrew fishing with a net. Then he said to them, "Come, be my disciples, and I will show you how to fish for people! " The brothers' incredible faith made them leave their nets at once and follow after the God's anointed one. The same scenario occurs when he calls James and John the sons of Zebedee. They immediately leave their nets and follow him. I find it hard to believe that inspite of the hatred of the Religious leaders & Pharisee towards Jesus, they still followed him, knowing he is the Christ who will save his people from the evil powers of death.

The section of the sermon on the mount that I read today was titled 'the Beatitudes'. These are beautiful and wise words from Jesus that bless those who are ridiculed, troubled, discriminated or persecuted because of their faith. It also blesses the righteous, the godly and the wise. The passage particularly speaks about satisfying the thirst in everybody's life. This so-called thirst can be anything, like desperation, depression, hopelessness and worldly issues. God says that those whose such needs aren't satisfied are blessed, for the kingdom of God is theirs. This is of course, only if they trust in Jesus to solve all of their problems.

Praise be to God! 👏👏👏
