Mathew 12 - Meditation by Kevin Samuel Premkumar

The topic that I want to discuss is the controversy about the Sabbath. When Jesus's disciples became hungry, they began breaking off heads of wheat in the grain fields and eating them. The Pharisees saw them do this and said that it was wrong to work on the Sabbath.

In response to that, Jesus reminded them of the time when David, his ancestor, and his companions were hungry, so they ate the special bread reserved for priests. Jesus also pointed out that priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath. "I tell you, there is one here who is even greater than the Temple!" he said. [Matthew 12:6, NLT]

After that, when Jesus went over to the synagogue, he found a man whose hand had been deformed. The Pharisees asked him if it was legal to work by healing on the Sabbath, to see if they can use his own words against him.

But Jesus gave them this illustration: "If you had one sheep, and it fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn't you get to work and pull it out? Of course you would. And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, it is right to do good on the Sabbath." [Matthew 12:11-12, NLT] Jesus then healed the man.

I found this part a bit amusing as every effort they take to trap Jesus with his own words, even on the Sabbath, goes in vain. 😝😝
